In the ever expanding academic setting, the critical demand of the molecular medicine paradigm requires appropriate training of healthcare professionals and biomedical researchers. Rather than simply teaching of biological phenomena; medical, pharmacy and nursing education needs an integrative problem-based approach to understand molecular medicine in a better way.

Students must learn to integrate both traditional medicine and modern molecular approaches in clinical scenarios.
This will equip physicians and healthcare professionals to acquire required skills in molecular medicine. CEGMR is smoothly running M.Sc and PhD course along with training and workshops in the field of modern biology.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) Program

Program Description:

The M.Sc. program is an intensive research oriented training program which is affiliated with the College of Science and the College of Medicine at the King Abdulaziz University. The program duration is 18 or 24 months depending upon the student joining in either the accelerated schedule by participating in courses all year or in the regular schedule (following the organizational structure at Saudi Universities). Student will receive a thorough education and training in biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular medicine and medical technology which will enhance their background.
The education part of the study has mandatory courses, laboratory rotations, and a Master Thesis.

Master thesis:

The Master thesis accounts for 40% of the overall grade. The master thesis has to be completed within 6 months (for example, 4 months practical lab work plus 2 months writing up the thesis). The master thesis has to supervised by a faculty member(s) at the King Abdulaziz University who is entitled to supervise postgraduate students as per University rules. A master thesis is performed in CEGMR lab as part of collaboration with the faculty.
Only in rare cases, a master thesis can be performed under the principal supervision of a scientist who is not faculty member at the King Abdulaziz University (external master thesis).

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in biology, chemistry or similar related fields.
  • TOEFL, IESTC or other proof of proficiency in English
  • Two letters of recommendation by the student referees
  • Written test

Language:
All courses are given in English.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Program

Program Description:

CEGMR is offering scholarships to the meritorious students interested to continue his/her higher education in the field of molecular medicine. 25,000 SR and 50000 SR are allocated for M.Sc and PhD students respectively to cover the research requirements such as purchasing chemicals and reagents. This fund is given for 1 year the M.Sc student and 3 years for the PhD student. CEGMR also encourages the enrolled student to apply for additional KACST grant.

CEGMR Financial Assistance and Scholarship:

The primary goal of the Ph.D. program at CEGMR is to educate students and young researchers, with a focus on interdisciplinary studies related to molecular medicine. Course work is designed to facilitate development of expertise in various aspects of medical sciences to educate students to be capable of conducting independent and original research programs in different area of medical sciences. CEGMR's mission is mainly to train students with quality education and research to meet the requirement of rapidly and widely growing specialized medical fields. We are committed admit, recruit, teach, and support students with the highest ethical and academic qualities.
The Doctor of Philosophy program is a research based degree for the duration of 3-5 years. The aim of thisprogram is to prepare the Saudi student with strong basics and recent advances in applied medical research and related disciplines. Emphasis is given on interdisciplinary research that provides doctoral students an opportunity to interact with experts from various fields. Students graduated from CEGMR will be confident in teaching, laboratory setting, research, administrative role, and healthcare, in both public and private sectors.
